Campus heat network upgrades

Find out how we have helped Loughborough University modernise and expand its district heating network to improve reliability, reduce energy costs and support long-term sustainability.

Executive summary

We were appointed by Loughborough University to reconfigure its district heating network, enabling the demolition of two campus buildings while maintaining uninterrupted heat supplies. The project included diverting existing heating and communications infrastructure, installing a new building connection and laying over 460m of district heating pipework, supporting the university’s ongoing campus redevelopment.

Project overview

Loughborough University planned to demolish the John Cooper and John Clements Buildings as part of its campus redevelopment programme. To enable the works while maintaining uninterrupted heating across the campus, the existing district heating and communications networks needed to be reconfigured.

Vital solution

We reconfigured the district heating network by diverting existing heating and communications infrastructure around the demolition site. The project included installing a new connection to the Matthew Arnold Building and laying over 460m of district heating pipework, ensuring continuous heat supplies while supporting the university’s redevelopment plans.
